As they say, “first things first”; so is the case with Muslims as far as learning Holy Quran is concerned. This is because their Mighty Creator and the creator of the whole universe, i.e. Allah (SWT), and His Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instruct them greatly upon this.

This is because Allah Almighty has made Qur’an incomparable and exalted source of guidance for humanity, the one this is ordained to guide whole humanity rather than a particular group of people to the righteous path leading to Allah Almighty’s will.

The best way to determine the significance of Quran learning is to consult the words of Allah Almighty (Qur’an itself) and His beloved Apostle Muhammad’s (PBUH) words (Hadith). We proceed by quoting a relevant verse, followed by an appropriate hadhith highlighting the importance of learning Quran:

Al-Baqara [2:231]   …..He sent down to you the book and Wisdom, for your instruction. And fear Allah and know that Allah is well acquainted with all things.

Prophet Muhammad once said

“On the Day of Qiyaamah a crown of such brilliance will be placed on the heads of the parents of one who learnt the Qur’aan and practised on its laws, that its glitter will outshine the brilliance of the sun which penetrates your houses. What then do you think will be the position of the one who himself learnt the Qur’aan and acted in accordance with it?”(Ahmad and Abu Dawood)

May Allah (SWT) helps us with His special assistance in fulfilling one of the most important religious obligations of learning Quran and practicing our lives on the principles mentioned in it.

Islam lays stress on human rights. Islam also provides specific teachings when it comes to neighbors, relatives, friends and family members. As is known, Islam is a way of life and it provides direction and guidance to Muslims about all aspects of life.

With respect to neighbors, Islam categorizes their rights into three distinct parts. Therefore, if your neighbor is your relative and a Muslim, Allah grants him three rights. His rights include the right of neighborhood, the right of association and the right of co-religion. As your neighbor, he has two duties including the neighborhood and kinship.

However, if your neighbor is non-Muslim, he only has the right of neighborhood. Allah says in the Quran,

“…and do good to parents, kins-folk, orphans, the poor who beg, the neighbor who is near of kin, the neighbor who is a stranger…” (4:36)

It is the responsibility of a neighbor to do good to his neighbor and be benevolent towards him. Prophet Muhammad says,

“The best neighbor is one who behaves best towards his neighbors.” (Tirmidhi)

On another occasion, the Prophet said,

“O! Abu Dharr… when you prepare soup add a little more water to it, and see if your neighbor needs some.” (Muslim)

This means that neighbors have tremendous rights on each other. It is essential that you treat your neighbor with request and dignity and offer him food if he does not have it. Also, it is important to stay away from dispute and conflict with your neighbor. Therefore, be sure to provide basic Quran and Islam education to your children. These teachings can be taught to your children through online Quran learning and education.
