The Prophet (PBUH) was a great man who excelled in all aspects of life. He was the greatest example of leading a good life according to the principles of Islam for all Muslims. He set examples for Muslims be it a father, uncle, nephew, husband or a grandfather. He also embodied attributes such as love, respect, patience, justice, courage, wisdom, generosity and intelligence among others. He is a source of inspiration for millions of Muslims all around the world.
Allah says in the Holy Quran,
“We sent thee not save as a mercy for the peoples.” (The Holy Quran: Al-Anbiya:107)
Before his death, the Prophet (PBUH) delivered a sermon. The sermon was a
reminder and an admonition and confirmed the Prophetic Mission of the Messenger of Allah. In his last sermon, the Prophet said,
“O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your LORD, and that HE will indeed reckon your deeds. ALLAH has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep….”
Conclusion
The last sermon of the Prophet (PBUH) is important because it highlighted all the basic principles and teachings of Islam and Quran. Therefore, it is important that you provide basic Islamic teaching to your children. Hire a competent and qualified Quran teacher for this purpose that teaches your children not only how to read and recite Quran, but also how to understand it as well.
